Happy May Day

I’ve been so busy that I haven’t spent hardly anytime in the kitchen apart from doing the necessary lunches and dinners (breakfasts have been cereal).

I have just a few minutes to blog before I have to feed Tabitha, my daughter. Then I have to start on our dinner which is a chicken biriani with a vegetable curry – a lot of hard work but the taste is to die for

So I want to wish all of my viewers a very happy Beltane (or May Day if you prefer).

For some reason typing this out has made me remember a time I was tied to a May Pole. But that, I think, is another story

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble

Just thought I’d share a project I did with my sons. It’s creating a potion that bubbles and spills out (just like in the movies). What you need is a glass jar, some white vinegar, food colouring, a splash of washing up liquid and some bicarbonate of soda.

Fill a jar half with white vinegar
Add a few drops of food colouring
Add a little washing up liquid
Then put a good tablespoon or so of bicarbonate of soda into the jar and watch it bubble.

Make sure you stand the jars on a baking tray so nothing gets stained. It’s quite a short project lasting only about 10 minutes but it was fun

Valentine’s Cake

Saturday Night Poppet Fever

What does any self respecting witch do on a Saturday night? Make a poppet of course

Ok, not exactly the most glamourous of evenings (no make up required) or the most intoxicating (no alcohol required) but it was fun.

Paul and I are always looking at ways of making witchcraft fun, practical and within budget for everyone. Sometimes you can feel that if you want a spell to work properly then you have to spend oodles of money on ingredients. But this isn’t the case!

Last night I made a poppet from a dish cloth cut out from a template of a gingerbread man. It’s not the best of materials to use as the cloth frays really easily but it does the trick! It’s perfect for stuffing with herbs as it has a kind of tea bag effect.

Here’s my poppet which took about 45 minutes to make. It’s stuffed with mint and a penny to attract money.

A birthday lush

It’s my birthday I wish I could say I was 21 but, erm, that seems almost half a lifetime ago now.

After quite a shaky start I’ve really enjoyed myself. Paul and I went to Southampton (I’d wanted to go to Portsmouth but ended up going in the opposite direction) and had a stroll around the shops. One of my most favourite shops in the world (my credit card company can vouch here) is Lush and there’s a big one in Southampton!

Lush make the kind of products I wish I had time to make. Their ingredients are natural, organic and free from chemicals. Not only do they do wonderful things to your skin & hair they smell so good. Today I picked up some more Jungle Hair conditioner plus several bath bombs. I was going to be really good and only get the conditioner which I need but Paul insisted (but isn’t that what birthdays are for?) on the bombs. We got Tisty Tosty (I’m going to use this tonight), Happy Pill, Guantanamo Garden and Honey Bee.

If you want to treat yourself or someone you love then you really can’t go wrong with Lush. It’s lovely
